Accurately Determining Your Needs

Getting old, as they say, is not for sissies.

Moving out of one’s home and into a senior community is a big decision and usually accompanied by a good deal of thought, research, and frequently a good deal of resistance. We are here to answer your questions, be honest about our experience at Solheim and with this life transition, and to provide as many opportunities for you to “check us out,” as you need or wish to have.

Our hope is that after you’ve visited us a few times you will begin to see the up side of community living and thus feel more able to accept, if not embrace a new phase of your life’s journey.

Here are some questions to consider:

  • Are you living alone, and if so, how often are you lonely?
  • Is the daily ritual of preparing healthy meals sometimes too much to bother with?
  • If you live with your spouse, is the health of him or her a concern to you?
  • Do you find you are losing friends and not making many new friends?
  • Do you know and trust your neighbors well enough to call them when you need a hand?
  • Have you deferred maintenance on your home?
  • Are you considering taking out a reverse mortgage on your home?
  • Would you like to attend concerts, go shopping or to an appointment without driving?
  • Do you exercise regularly? If you don’t exercise regularly is it because it’s just too hard to get started and not very fun on your own?
  • Have you fallen in the last six months?
  • Have you planned for the reality of needing more daily help as you age?
  • Have you ever experienced something that you thought sounded bad but surprised you by being good?

Solheim Lutheran Home is a Continuing Care Community for seniors. This means that we offer 4 levels of care on the same campus here in Eagle Rock. As an incoming resident you choose to pay by the month, or to sign a Continuing Care Agreement which includes a modest entrance fee. Residents are welcome to start by paying monthly and move to a Continuing Care Agreement after making sure Solheim is the right home for them. Monthly rates with a Continuing Care Agreement start at $2,550.

Benefits of a Continuing Care Agreement – Your monthly rate is considerably lower than a Month to Month Agreement. You are assured of priority placement and a discount if you need to be in our Skilled Nursing area. YOU WILL RECEIVE CONTINUED CARE EVEN IF YOU OUTLIVE YOUR ASSETS. This is a remarkable benefit given that in the U.S. the number of centenarians doubled in the 80s and doubled again in the 90s. Solheim Lutheran Home works actively to continue building Charitable Giving so that we will always be able to provide for the people who make Solheim their home.
